A plot and a building are seen as micro cosmos of the cosmos, divided into the four quadrant of air, water earth and fire with space at the centre. This principle forms the very basis of Vaastu.

These elements must be kept in balance as this creates powerful and beneficial energies which draws health, wealth and prosperity towards us.

On the other hand , an imbalance of the elements can create negative energies which may be harmful.

The directions most suitable for differentt elements according to vaastu are :-

1) The North-East quadrant is assigned to water.

This element is for procreation.

This quadrant is appropriate for having a bore well, a pond or an underground water tank.

This quadrant has to be the lowest in height.

If this quadrant is raised or has a heat source, or if the north-east is cut off, then expansion of business will be affected, financial situation can worsen. Newly wed couples will find it difficult to have children.

2)The North-West quadrant is assigned to air.

This element is for feelings.

This quadrant is appropriate to keep finished goods as they will move fast. If a guest room is located there, they are not likely to stay for long.

If there is depression or even if it is at height higher than the south-west, the feelings of others towards you will be blocked. The same happens towards your products and services.

Expenses can also rise.

3) The South-East is assigned to fire.

This element is for fame, vision and growth.

This quadrant is ideal for having your kitchen, furnace, boiler, electrical connections and equipments.

If there is a depression or a cut or a water source in this corner, it will lead to bad reputation to the family and business. It will create conflicts in the family. It will also block prosperity.

4) The South-WEST Quadrant is assigned to earth.

This element is connected with issues of survival.

A depression, a water source or a cut in the southwest will lead to loss of control in every sphere of life. Health of the master of house will be adversely affected. Control of business is also seen. Members of the family will not show respect to the master of the house.

5) The Centre is assigned to space ( ether or akash ).

This is the element for internal strength.

This area is sacred and should be kept empty.

It should not have a water source or anything heavy kept over there. There should be no pillars or ladders leading to upper stories in this area.

If possible , this area should be open to sky so that sunlight can come into the house from here.

If any of the above problems are present at the centre then it will cause a drain on finances.
